Process
Day one finding National Symbols
The beginning of any journey is research on the topic or issue. If we were to go snipe hunting first let's find out what we would be looking for or risk finding something completely different. We should not become victims of a Snipe.
"Definition of SNIPE HUNT
: a practical joke in
which the victim is left in a remote spot holding a bag for fictitious snipe to
run into " http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/snipe%20hunt
So no joking about it...
The first task is to start finding National Symbols and writing a brief statement to explain the symbol. You should find 7-10 symbols that represent a cause, or show patriotism, it can be anything on a US National level you can describe in a concise statement and show with 2-3 pictures.
(Remember to credit the work in the notes section on the Powerpoint.)
In order to be better thinkers and to spur our creative skills the statement should explain the symbol in 10 words.
You will need to create a power point to record the symbols and save the file as directed by the teacher. My class has the standard method of saving; as all our other projects.
RESOURCES
Resources to help you find symbols may include the poster in the room, and you may use the "Hard Copy" material on the class library. I have several books on the resource shelf like "National Geographic," "The Century for Young People," By Peter Jenning and Todd Brewster, "Life World Library of The United States," " Kids Discover," magazines. Pictures may be scanned by appointment. Additionally, you may use the internet such as http://www.google.com

Day Two Ordering Your Symbols
The next process involves some technical skills.
The search engine has a little more information about your topic that may help you determine how much people may like a topic. Any topic that is popular will have more search results. For example if you type in Bald Eagle, it might yield 86,300,000 results on the topic. The Statue of Liberty might yield 19,700,000 web results. This means that the Bald Eagle might have more popular appeal since it has more written about it. Therefore, we may a system of order to display the symbols you have choosen to put in your Powerpoint.
Your task today is to order your symbols by moving the slides around to form "Top Ten" list of your symbols. Show the results in the text box after your 10 word statement describing the symbol.
This will help you later with determining if a topic or issue seems popular to people.

Create a National Symbol
Today is a creative day and your task is to create some symbol that you have some emotional connecton about.
You should insert your idea about a National symbol in your presentation on the end of your other slides. Explain in a short narrative why you feel so strongly about the issue and think of some way to demonstrate it.
You may find a picture or not, but include the search results to support the popularity of the topic.
There are many examples people have used already, like the yellow ribbon for troops over in a war. Talk with your partner and explore some of the sites listed:
