Projects
Students had to research and construct replicas of the houses of Catal Huyuk and together made up the village. Additionally, students watched Mrs. Elaine demonstrate how the pottery wheel worked and students then made coil pottery. They also researched early civilization pottery and painted pots.
Student Reflection
Building the catal huyuk houses was fun. It was
fun to see the other houses. Trying to build a better house than the person next
to you.
Catal Huyuk
houses
The Catal Huyuk houses were a fun and interesting way to learn about
Catal Huyuk. Did you know there doors were on the roof! Some had swimming pools,
others had slides, but all were creative. It took us a long time, but it was
worth it.
All though some looked a little on the weird side.
We used staples, glue, paper, and a whole lot of tape. They surprisingly
turned out ok. Plus we got to do a lot of research on the computer.

Student Reflection
My reflection on pottery…
I had an exceptional experience with pottery. It was amusing to watch the clay
form its shape while the wheel turned.
We learned the art of pottery, the occasional plate, cup, or vase. It
would be to my exception to do it again. I do hope to do it in the
future.
Pottery is fun at times and boring at
times. I thought it was fun when we made the pots. I also thought it was fun
when we painted the pots too. When Ms. Elian made the pots I thought it was
awesome.

Student Reflection
The coiling pottery project that we did at the beginning of the year wasn’t very
good because I did not like to make pottery and it seemed difficult. I had to
dig the clay out of my fingernails when I got home and had to take a
shower.
Reflection
Pottery
It was really awesome when we had to read
about it. Plus when we had to build
pots.
pottery
I think that pottery is somewhat interesting. It can tell you pieces from the past
and acient times. It can tell stories of how they lived back then.
Pottery
I enjoyed painting a saucer. We painted zig-zags, flowers, and
polka dots on the saucer. We did the pottery like the Catal Huyuks did. Mrs.
Elaine made the pots and saucers. I think it was fun. I’d like to do it
again.
Pottery
I think are project was really interesting. I think we should do some
more pottery. You have to make sure that, like if you are making a pot you have
to make the clay thin. I did not mind getting clay on me. We had
make a clay pot, we had to paint are clay pots of how people back then
had designs.
Pottery
It was exiting to learn about different clay. I was having to much fun to watch the clay spin. I had fun writing sentence about clay. I did not know that there was different clay. The clay was becoming to
shape into a bowl.
When Mrs. Alane did pottery she used a
machine and not a wheel to spin it. When she was spinning it took a while. But
back long ago it took maybe a day to make it. They used clay or mud. They made
pots, plates and many more things.
What I thought about the project was it was
interesting about the pottery it looked really hard to do. The houses were kind
of hard but not as hard as the
pottery. I really loved the
project and I hope we do something like it again!
I didn’t like the project, because you clay
and got messy with the clay, but I didn’t like getting in trouble when I got
home, because I got clay all over.
It was fun, because I like all activities. I did not like the
pottery because it smelt weird.
My Reflection on Pottery
Pottery was very fun to learn about. We learned how to make, and craft the clay and put it into pottery
so they turned out to be a plate, a bowl , or a vase. I think it would be very
exceptional to know how to do the art of pottery. I wish that I could learn by hand how to make the sculpture
itself.

Civil War
This project represented local civil war history. Students researched both sides leaders, resources, battle outcomes and battle maps. Students then made a poster representation of their information.
